Waste-To-Energy Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Disposal
Wyllie Recycling has invested heavily in diverting as much waste as possible away from landfill. This diverted tonnage will continue to increase as recycling rates improve and we expand our DMR, Food and Glass waste collection services and invest in more efficient sorting facilities.
We currently dispose of suitable residual non-recyclable waste at a Waste-to-Energy plant operating locally which accepts non-recyclable waste as a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).
High pressure steam produced by the waste incineration process at this site is harnessed, fed through turbines and the resultant electricity generated is supplied back to the National Grid.
This is a completely enclosed and sealed site, licenced and inspected by SEPA.
Wyllie Recycling not only chose this site because of its waste to energy capabilities, but also because of its high levels of awareness of environmental impacts created by waste incineration, flue emission and inert waste ash handling and disposal.
Wyllie Recycling will continue to use the best environmental options available for safe disposal of non—recyclable waste and will endeavour to lead the way in finding sustainable waste management solutions. .
